What is ImaginationGYM?

created space designed to enhance life in care

ImaginationGYM is a specially designed room or creative space based on a core methodology. The methodology has been researched since 2000 and it is based on imagination and brain integration. It combines the use of audio story-telling, music, nature and nature imagery, colour, physical space, aromas and light touch therapy to assist with the reflective, relaxing and imaginative processes. This enhances emotional balance, deep relaxation and self-connection in a reflective way.

The programmes are designed to be easily integrated into healthcare systems in the areas of Dementia Care and Palliative Care. The focus on the outcomes of our staff training is to create a relaxing, quiet, refreshing and calm environment that assists not only the needs of the residents attending the sessions, but also the needs of families and the nursing and care staff.

Training & Qualifications

Training healthcare staff in residential & day care centres

ImaginationGYM programmes can be used in day-care or residential care  settings to assist with Dementia Care and Palliative Care. They can also be integrated into family and staff support programmes.

ImaginationGYM programmes can be used by trained staff in day-care or residential settings to enhance quality-of-life for residents with Dementia and those undergoing Palliative Care. Trained staff include nurses, activity coordinators, social care managers and care staff.

Sessions can be run in small groups or one-to-one sessions. Our programmes can also be used for general relaxation and stress management for all residents.

ImaginationGYM uses a combination of music, nature, aroma, colour and light touch therapy to enhance the wellbeing of those attending the sessions. Our methodology and room space set-up allows each person attending to access their own imagination and creativity in a personal way.

Our programmes facilitate group interaction in a relaxed and natural format.

The programme is very easy to implement and can easily be incorporated into daily residential schedules.

ImaginationGYM Registered Centres are nursing homes or facilities where staff have trained to a higher level assessment based certification. The facility is then awarded with an ImaginationGYM Registered Certifcation.

These facilities are listed on our website to promote and support as examples of best practice in healthcare settings.

The first step in training with ImaginationGYM is to attend the ImaginationGYM Level 1 “Activity Therapy for Dementia Care” course. It is a two-day training that qualifies the staff member to run ImaginationGYM sessions at their place of work. Certification is valid for 2 years.

The next level of certification is the Practitioner Level certification. This is a one-day online course. We consider facilities with Practitioner Level qualified staff as ImaginationGYM Registered Centres and work closely with them to support and promote their efforts at enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Yes, an ImaginationGYM qualification needs to be updated every 2 years. This ensures that the latest information and safety data are understood and implemented for compliance purposes.

All updating courses are online.

Our Palliative Care programme was launched in 2019. We focus on the mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the person at this important time. This is done by creating a sacred and peaceful space for the dying person and their family and friends.

We designed an easily implementable programme to support the resident and their family. It gives qualified staff the simple tools and techniques that can bring many benefits to the wellbeing of all involved. This can greatly enhance the quality of care for the terminally ill and dying in a busy facility.
